On a Trip through Portugal – Bragança

Hello!!
You thought I was done with showing you a bit more of Portugal?? No way! There is still a lot more to see!

After Lamego, it was time to go to Bragança, very up north Portugal. It is so up north that it was possible to see Spain without any binoculars.

About Bragança

Bragança is located in the north-eastern Portugal, with a bit over 35000 inhabitants (2011 official data)  and only less than 30km away from the closest Spanish town called Puebla de Sanabria (according to Google 😅).

What to do

To be fairly honest, when we finally got to Bragança, it was already quite late in the day, so we basically just went to the city center to grab some food, enjoy some drinks and left all the sightseeing for the next day (when I took all these photos).
The old city center has quite a lot of historical landmarks, and like many other towns/villages in Portugal, you better e prepared to walk several kilometers on a non-flat ground. Up and down, up and down…

Fun Facts

During our stay in Bragança, we walked 24974 steps which correspond to approximately 16.2km! At this point of our trip, you could imagine that the legs would be used to this long walks but that was not the case… They were heavy and constantly asking for a break… which they didn’t get! haha

We spend most of our day in the Castle and its surroundings; it’s beautiful and as you could see, it provides fantastic overviews of the city but also of the landscapes surrounding Bragança.
As far as my memory goes, I do not recall ever being in Bragança, so it was also a surprise to me and I did feel like a tourist.
The people of Bragança are very kind and always willing to give you tips on where to go and what to check out. To my surprise, we also found quite a large amount of Dutchies (among other nationalities, of course) and it seemed a consensus: they also liked Bragança!
So stay tuned, because very soon I will post the second part of our stay in Bragança. I don’t want you to blame me for photo-overdose! hahaha
Take care!
