The last post of March is here and we go back to Groningen and to a day trip, I did back in December! This is how you time-travel, friends. haha
Groningen is a Dutch city located in the northeast of the Netherlands and you should include it in your must-visit list.
This is part 2 for this trip report, so in case you miss it here, it is How to spend a day in Groningen, NL.

Favorite sights

It is quite hard for me to say which sights I liked the most while walking the streets of Groningen. Really, it is such a rich city and diverse that selecting favorite sights becomes almost a mission impossible.

But if I had to point out a few “must-see” sights in Groningen, I would say:

 – Vismarkt
 – Martini Church and Martini Tower
 – Forum Bibliothek and its amazing rooftop, where you can have a 360° view of the city! Bonus: it is free!!!
 – Stroll through the city center, and just absorb the city’s vibrant atmosphere.

NOTE:
At the time of my visit, the Martini Tower was not open for visits, as it used to be in the past.
I am not sure if it was a temporary measure, or if it is permanently closed.

Eat & Drink

Groningen has many options when it comes to restaurants and bars/pubs, so it won’t be hard to find something that suits your wishes, whether that is diet or budget.
In my case, since I just spend a day in Groningen and had a long drive awaiting me in the evening, I decided to have a good lunch. With that in mind, I and my mother went to the Het Goudkantoor restaurant, which is nicely located and it has a large variety of dishes available.
I remember I had a veggie omelet and it was delicious!

Later in the afternoon, we went for some drinks and small snacks at the Cappuvino, which is located at the Vismarkt square. Nice place for this purpose, I would say. We had a table at the window and could admire the Christmas lights and people walking by.
Recommend it!

How long do you need to visit Groningen?

You can do it like I did, as a day trip, but in my opinion, it is better to spend a weekend there. Not only you will see things in more detail, but you won’t have to rush to catch your train back home/hotel nor have to drive late at night.

If you have been reading this blog for a while now, you will know how much I like weekend city trips, and even though Groningen may not be your first option when having a weekend in the Netherlands, I believe it is totally worth it!

Plus, you will be able to enjoy the nightlife of Groningen!

Final thoughts

Groningen is approved! 😊👍
I totally recommend going to spend, at least, a day in this lovely, vibrant and charming Dutch city. Even though for me it’s quite far away, I would like to go visit again during spring/summer.
