Travel | A short visit to Berlin, part 1.

Hello!
For the longest time, I wanted to visit Berlin but somehow it never happened. To be honest, I don’t know why; probably flight fares…
There was this evening, I was browsing around for a nice weekend break that I could go without taking days off, and found out several flight options to Berlin for a very nice price!
Didn’t think twice; booked!
Fast forward a few months, and just a few days before the trip, I felt really unwell. To the point, I had no idea if I could get out of my hotel room. Therefore, I didn’t prepare for the trip, didn’t search for what things to see and so on.
Anyway, Saturday morning, after waking up and going for breakfast, I stuffed myself with some good painkillers and off I went…
Glad they worked because my eyes couldn’t believe what I was seeing; we walked mainly in Mitte neighborhood, which I dare to say is the “main” area of Berlin. And it is huge!!!
We walked a LOT!!! To the point, your joints start to hurt, you know? It goes without saying that on Sunday, before heading to the airport, we didn’t walk as much, and instead took trams to see a bit more of the city.
At the end of this post, you will find some useful information regarding public transportation and where to stay.

These metal pilars represent the Wall and exactly where it used to be. You find these throughout the whole city… Very impressive.

Gorgeous isn’t it??
I was blown away by how beautiful Berlin was; I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect anything like this.
I had this idea that it would be a very gloomy, dark and not so interesting city. Why? I also don’t know.
But before I go, here’s some info for you in case you plan to visit Berlin:

How to reach Berlin city center

My flight was to Tegel, therefore, I only know how it works from/to there. There is this express bus service called Berlin Airport TXL, which brings you to the city center from the airport for less than 3eur. This bus stops at the main hot spots of Berlin and it goes very frequently.
Please check this website for all info on schedules, stops, and price: Berlix TXL Bus.

Where did I stay

If I can recommend you something out of this very short trip to Berlin is to stay at ARCOTEL John F Berlin. I believe, that from all of my city trips, this was the best hotel I stayed in.
The room was fantastic (and true to the photos), spacious and a big plus: fantastic lighting in the bathroom.
The breakfast was super diverse and plentiful.
Like always, I do my bookings via Booking.com[*] and totally recommend it to you, as it is super easy to search, book and manage all your reservations.

Public transportation

If you don’t want to walk to the point your joints start to hurt (like I did…), it is very easy to move around the city with public transportation. There are plenty of tram lines, metro lines, and buses.
Usually, all very easy to understand.
The only minus I can point out is how slow and old-fashioned the ticket machines are, and the lack of proper network maps available. Other than that, super easy to use.

I hope you liked this first part of my visit to Berlin.

Obrigada pela dica da app!! Será sem dúvida muito útil!
    xo, B.
