Travel | Short but sweet visit to Berlin – pt 2

Travel | A short visit to Berlin, part 2.

Hello
Who is ready to continue this photo diary of the trip to Berlin??
Even though I was in town for just one day, I made sure to get the best out if, even if I wasn’t feeling so well.
On the first part of this photo-diary, I explained all about it, so in case you miss it, here you are: Berlin pt1

At the end of the post, I will share some more useful information, as well as point out my high & downlights of the whole trip.

So without further dues, let’s go!

Passing by the Museum Island; this is a great area for those of you who like to go Museum scouting. Here you find:
  • Old Museum
  • New Museum
  • Old National Gallery
  • Bode Museum
  • Pergamon Museum

The Konzerthaus Berlin, located at the Gendarmenmarkt. Lovely there!!!
From here, we continued towards Checkpoint Charlie.

And we were greeted with a large number of tourists, waiting to take photos with “the American guards/soldiers”…
I had no idea that from this point on, we would be walking towards one the “heavier” parts of town. Little we knew what we were getting into…

Walked by the wall, towards the Gestapo’s HQ.

Once we got here, we both (me and Mr.A), felt this suuuuuper weird atmosphere. It was very quiet, hardly any people, and the air just felt heavy. I don’t know how to describe it, but it felt like we were stepping into Terror’s House.
We just took our time to check it out and eventually decided to get out of there, as it was affecting our mood…
Yet, I recommend you to check it for yourself.

Walking towards Potsdamer Platz, the Sun decided to do this to me… I had to capture it!

Arrived at Potsdamer Platz, and it was very busy!
From here, our destination was the Holocaust monument. Took my time to prepare for it…

It was beyond impressive, I have to admit.
To see all those cement blocks, representation of the atrocities that have been committed against Jews and just to realize the gratitude of all was breathtaking.
What it also stroke my attention, was how people can be so selfish and disrespectful towards this monument. What I mean with this is the fact seeing people running around it, playing hide & seek, doing “photoshoots” or even jumping from tumb to tumb…
Perhaps I take the word “Monument” to seriously, but it bothers me to see this kind of attitude by the younger generations, and I’m not even Jewish.
Getting the “perfect Instagram photo” should not mean you can do anything to achieve it…
My 2 cents.
Other than that, it was very impressive! Really…

From there we passed the Brandenburger Tower and the German Parliament. And no, I have no photos of the Brandenburger Tower, because it was completely blocked by a massive screen to broadcast the World Cup final…
One of the many reasons why I need to go back to Berlin.

And then from here, we slowly started to walk back towards our Hotel area to find a place to grab dinner.
I was getting so tired, that taking photos stopped being on my mind. I only wanted to get a place to sit and eat. haha
Eventually, we found a nice Italian restaurant, Malatesta, where they served very nice food until late. My mushroom risotto was delicious!

From there, we finally got in the subway towards our hotel, even though it was not far anymore, but our legs didn’t allow any more movement. haha

Highlights

The Aquadom, the Holocaust monument and walking by the Spree river, just to name a few.
Oh and our Hotel!!

Downlights

The whole trip was just way too short; I wish I could have stayed longer. I am sure Berlin has a lot more to see, so I can’t wait to go back.

A tip:

A reader left a very nice tip on the previous post about Berlin: download the app to make  BVG Fahrinfo to easily buy tickets for all your public transportation. This way, you can avoid old and slow ticket machines!
Thanks for the tip!!

I totally recommend you to check out Part 1 post where I share other important information, such as how to go to/from the airport, which hotel I stayed at and about transportation in the city. Read all in HERE.

I hope you liked these two posts dedicated to Berlin.
Let me know in the comments which other sights I should check out on my next visit to Berlin. Because, I’ll come back, for sure!!
