Hello!
How have you been?
Over here, things are going very smooth, spring is finally here (for now…) and we had a lovely weekend. Actually, today’s post is related to the last weekend and what we did.
For the first time, we did a road trip with Cooper which included an overnight at a hotel! Like, a real hotel!!
It was a bit last minute plan, but we went to visit some friends in Zwolle, to catch up and have a lovely BBQ.
I have been to this city before, as you can read on these posts (part 1 & part2), so this time, we decided that it wouldn’t be really necessary to go sightseeing.
Instead, we traveled with time, and with Cooper to Zwolle.
As I mentioned, this was officially our first road trip or weekend away with Cooper, and in a summarized version: it all went great!!!
When we decided to go meet our friends, we looked for a hotel to stay overnight, and at first, we were a bit afraid that no hotel would accept our 8-month chocolate labrador, but soon enough we found out several options!
I was so surprised!!
I think it’s great that hotels allow their guests to bring their pets; after all, as I see it, Cooper is part of our family and has the right to go and stay with us, no matter what.
Of course, it was our duty to make sure he would behave, and no accidents would happen in the room, but we were confident that he would behave just as good as he does at home.
And guess what? he did!!!
When we made our reservation, the hotel didn’t ask anything about what kind of pet we were bringing, and instead, they were very enthusiastic when we asked if it was okay; “Yes, of course!!” they said on the phone.
In this hotel, they charge an extra fee (7,50Eur/night) for pets, but they didn’t put restrictions nor conditions.
Once checked in and welcomed, we went to our room; I was expecting that we would a crapy room “since we had a pet” but no, we had a lovely room, very spacious and nicely furnished.
They even gave Cooper a little welcome bag, with some treats and a chewing ball! So thoughtful!!
It was amazing to see Cooper’s reaction to a “new place”; as you can imagine, he was very curious about everything. So we gave him enough time to sniff everything and get to know the place.
Off we went to our friends; we all had a lovely time together and once again, we were super happily surprised by how Cooper reacted to the new environment and also to meet a baby.
Once again: 10/10!
Eventually, it was time to say goodbye and off we went back to our hotel room.
I’m not going to lie: I was a bit anxious about how Cooper would do during the night.
Was he going to stay put in his pillow and sleep the whole night? Or, was he going to take advantage that we were sleeping, would make a mess out of the room?
Well, the truth is neither of the options!
He did sleep but he also moved around the room to find new sleeping spots. hahaha
But one thing is for sure: he didn’t have an accident in the room and waited until it was morning to go outside and do his business!
Long story short: Cooper did amazing on his first weekend away with us and we were very happy about that!
After all, it was always our intention to bring him along whenever we go away.
Of course, none of this could have been possible without two things:
Hotels that are pet-friendly and understand that pets are part of the family, and therefore, are entitled to stay with their families.
Cooper is fully potty trained!
This was an amazing experience and we will for sure repeat.
And you are in the neighborhood of Zwolle with your pet, then check out Hotel Lumen! Totally recommend.
