Hello!
When one thinks of visiting the Netherlands, many cities come to mind: Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag being on the top of the list, I dare to say. Even though those are nice cities, the Netherlands has so much more to offer.
So in today’s post, I am taking you with me to the beautiful city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch – short version), the capital city of the Dutch province of North-Brabant.
A weekend in Den Bosch (NL)
Right before the Christmas madness would start, I and Mr. A decided to book a little city trip, to relax, and this time we stayed within the Netherlands.
Den Bosch (short version of ’s-Hertogenbosch) may not seem an obvious choice but after reading Nele’s guide from the blog
The Naviagatio, I knew it was time to return to a city we have not visited in about 9 years.

Den Bosch train station |
The best way to get to Den Bosch is either by car or train. We had a bit of both since we had a lift to the train station hahaha.
From there, it was just a short walk until we found a nice place to get some lunch; ‘t Gerucht was our choice and we were very happy with the service and our lunch.
Approved!

Drakenfontein – Such a beautiful roundabout! |
As we walked towards the city center, I found this public bench that not only is a beautiful piece of art, but also carries a lovely message: “Here there is a place for everyone.”
Yes, the world needs more of these “places”, doesn’t it?

And just a couple of meters from this bench, there is the Bolwerk Sint Jan, which is a restaurant/brasserie right at the Dommel river. We did not visit it but I’m sure that during spring/summertime, one can enjoy lovely moments over there.
Seemed very inviting and maybe next time we go to Den Bosch might come by.

Cozy streets of Den Bosch |
I personally enjoy cities where you can see how the locals live and how they enjoy their city, and I had that feeling while walking to the many cozy streets of Den Bosch. People biking their way through the streets, people walking with a smile on their face… Lovely!!
It is almost impossible not to feel welcome in such a city!

Artsy room view |
I was very happy with our hotel room, and even though we did not have a room facing the Market square, our view was pretty cool as well.
I like the artistic touch to the outdoor vents and patio.

Cute streets of Den Bosch |
One of the things that got my attention about Den Bosch is how cozy, inviting and overall cute this city center is. Every street we walked, you could hear us say “omg, this is so cute!!”.
I’m sure the locals passing by might have found us a bit annoying. hahaha

On the way to St Jan’s Cathedral |
This Cathedral is so beautiful!! I was really surprised, even though I’d read and heart about its beauty but when you see it in person… so wow!
Also worth mentioning, during Christmas time, they have a small Christmas town inside the Cathedral, but unfortunately, at the time of our visit they were still building it up.

Inside St Jan’s Cathedral |
As beautiful from the outside as from the inside, in my opinion.
With the cloudy sky, and naked trees on the backside of the Cathedral, I’m super happy with how gloomy/dark this photo turned out; exactly the mood I was looking for!
